Mayer Thankful after 12th Place Finish at Richmond

Race 25 of 33: Go Bowling 250 at Richmond Raceway

Track Specs: 0.75-mile oval / 250 laps

Race Winner: Noah Gragson

Stage 1 Finish: 12th

Stage 2 Finish: 7th

Mayer’s Finish: 12th

Since JRM owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the reigns of the No. 8 Chevrolet at Richmond, Sam Mayer drove for BJ McLeod Motorsports on Saturday in the No. 99 QPS Employment Group Chevrolet for the Go Bowling 250 at Richmond Raceway. Mayer rolled off 38th but worked his way up to the 12th position by the end of stage one. Mayer spent much of the second segment inside inside the top 10, scoring a seventh-place finish at the end of stage two.

Having come from the rear of the field, Mayer had settled into the top 10, and took the lead on a restart at lap 185. Mayer would lead seven laps on the day, and despite running most of the second half of the race in the top 10, was a victim of tire strategy and crossed the finish line in the 12th position.

Sam Mayer, driver No. 99 QPS Employment Group Chevrolet:

“We had a very solid run. It wasn’t how we wanted to finish after being up in the top 10 most of the day but had a great learning day. I want to thank everyone involved in making this last-minute weekend happen.”
